The vibrant colors and complex protrusions represent the meticulously designed surface structure of the nanozymes. The nanozyme spheres are connected to phospholipid surface proteins via these protrusions, suggesting their ability to attach to the cell membrane surface and exert biological effects. Earlier in January, CI published in this column a couple of articles concerning the IUPAC definition of the concept of an element. The first contribution by Eric Scerri started with a very brief historical review of how our understanding of this central concept in chemistry has developed and provided an interpretation of the IUPAC Gold Book definition of element. The second contribution by Doug Templeton, suggested how in a compendium of terminology, the word “element” might be handled.
