2027 IUPAC-Zhejiang NHU International Award for Advancements in Green Chemistry – Call for Nominations

IUPAC-Zhejiang NHU International Award was established to emphasize the importance of advancements in Green Chemistry and their value to human progress. The awards  encourage young and experienced chemists to innovate through Green Chemistry Principles in a wide array of topic areas such as Green and Renewable Feedstocks, Green Synthetic Routes, Green Solvents, Green Catalysis, Green Products, Green Energy, and as broadly defined by OECD, Sustainable Chemistry.*

The Award was established in 2019 and is presented every two years. The most recent 2025 recipients for the early career award were Jianbin Li from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Philip Stanley from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and Sahel Fajal from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune, India. The experienced chemist awarded was Professor Javier Pérez-Ramírez from ETH Zurich. See detailed announcement.

 

The 2027 IUPAC-Zhejiang NHU International Award includes:

Three Early Career Chemists Awards

  • Criteria: Ph.D. (or equivalent) degree or completed all Ph.D. requirements including successful defense of their doctoral thesis within the last 3 years (September 2023 – August 2026).
  • Evaluation Process: Qualified Ph.D. chemists will be evaluated based on the quality of their theses work. Application requires submission of a completed entry form, including a 250-word motivation statement and 1000-word essay describing his or her research thesis work in the context of relevance to Green and Sustainable Chemistry. To be considered for the award, the essay must be written in English and may not exceed 1000 words. Additionally, two letters of support are required and should be independently submitted by appropriate references on official letterhead.
  • Award: US $2,000 for each awardee

 

Experienced Chemist Award

  • Criteria: Experienced chemist who has made significant contribution to green/sustainable chemistry throughout their career.
  • Evaluation Process: High quality and impactful contributions to their green/sustainable chemistry field over their career including representative publications. Application requires submission of a completed entry form, including a 500-word essay submitted by the entrant in English that describes his or her research work and the impact on Green Chemistry.
  • Award: US $10,000

 

The work of those receiving the awards demonstrating progress in Green Chemistry will be disseminated to the attention of a wider global audience. All scientists are eligible irrespective of gender and nationality. Winners of this award will be expected to submit a review article for publication in Pure and Applied Chemistry in the year following their award. The awards will be presented at the 2027 IUPAC World Chemistry Congress to be held in Montreal, Canada, 9-16 July 2027. Awardees will be encouraged to attend the award ceremony and support up to US $1000 to defray travel expenses will be offered.
