Closing of the IUPAC RTP Office

As IUPAC prepares to close its office in Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina, on 30 June 2026, we would like to acknowledge and thank the dedicated staff who have served the Union from this location over nearly three decades. Since the establishment of the North American Secretariat in 1997, the RTP office has provided continuity, expertise, and unwavering support to IUPAC’s scientific, administrative, financial, publishing, and governance activities, helping the Union navigate a period of significant growth and transformation.

We are especially grateful to the many colleagues who contributed to the success of the RTP office over the years, including Executive Directors John W. Jost, Terry Renner, John Petersen, Lynn Soby, Greta Heydenrych, and Fabienne Meyers, as well as staff members, Linda Tapp, Alan Senzel, Pamela Footman, Lucinda Kelly, Paul LeClair, Erin Carter, Laura Abernathy, Bryan Pearson, Jay Lucido, Lisa Musty, Tammy Bridges, and Enid Weatherwax. Through their professionalism, commitment, and service, they helped build and sustain an effective Secretariat that supported generations of IUPAC volunteers and leaders around the world.

The RTP office witnessed major milestones in the Union’s history, including the modernization of its operations, the growth of its project system, the expansion of its scientific and educational activities, and landmark international initiatives that strengthened IUPAC’s global impact. As Secretariat functions transition to the new offices in Málaga and Rome, we express our sincere appreciation to all who worked in RTP and whose contributions have left a lasting legacy for the Union. Their dedication over the past 29 years has been instrumental in advancing IUPAC’s mission and values worldwide.
