Open Access: Why IUPAC is a Supporter

The 10th International Open Access Week is 23-29 October 2017. This annual global event was established in 2008 by the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition and its partners in the student community with the goal of furthering an understanding of the benefits of Open Access which SPARC defines as “free, immediate, online access to the results of scholarly research, and the right to use and re-use those results as you need.” The theme of this year’s event is “OPEN IN ORDER TO…” and is inviting input on the concrete benefits that can gained by making scholarly outputs openly available.

To respond to SPARC’s invitation, De Gruyter -IUPAC publishing partner- has asked IUPAC to share why would it give away its Journal Pure and Applied Chemistry for free. READ on, Bonnie Lawlor (CPCDS chair), Ron Weir (ICTNS chair and PAC editor), and Hugh Burrows (PAC editor) answer.
