Philippe is a VC2020 Senior Lecturer in Biological Chemistry & Cheminformatics at De Montfort University in Leicester. He is Chair of the Royal Society of Biology East Midlands Branch, and a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London. His lab consists of ten researchers covering projects on many aspects of the translation of chemical analysis to medicine; this diverse group focusses on addressing UN sustainable development goals 3, 4, and 15, with projects including the creation of novel sensors for the early detection of breast cancer in collaboration with Prof Mather at the University of Nottingham; the construction of modules to increase the sensitivity of analytical instruments for metabolomics/lipidomics investigations; and development of computational intelligence frameworks for the treatment of chemical/biochemical analytical data. Indeed, his lab was among the first to report comprehensive metabolomics investigations of human biofluids by low field NMR spectrometry, opening up biomedical applications of this technology.

His group is supported by funding from Cancer Research UK, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Science and Technologies Facilities Council, and The Royal Society. In 2019, with Prof Martin Grootveld, he co-edited a new volume in the Royal Society of Chemistry Theoretical Series, entitled Computational Techniques for Analytical Chemistry and Bioanalysis, which covers the range of applications of theoretical and computational approaches to chemical analysis.

Philippe is an equality and diversity champion, serving as co-Chair of his departmental Athena SWAN committee, and is a passionate educator, also publishing on chemical education theory and practice.
