< back to COCI, the Committee on Chemistry and Industry
Since 2000, STP Fellows from Turkey, Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya, China, India, Ghana and Uruguay, have received training at Host Companies in the U.S.A., Japan, South Africa, U.K., Canada, Denmark, Belgium and The Netherlands. The Safety Training Program, or STP, is coordinated by the Committee on Chemistry and Industry (COCI). For more information, see the Safety Training Fellows page for past STP Fellow reports, presentations and other resources. Currently 1-2 STP Fellowship candidates from developing countries are trained per year to deliver improved Environmental, Health, and Safety programs to their institution and home country.
In 2016, the STP regional training in Latin America for STP Associate Fellows was initiated. This STP-LA training in Uruguay created a center for learning increased chemical safety & security in local languages. For more information, see the Safety Training Associate Fellows page.
Complementary to the STP program are the STP Workshops held during the biennial IUPAC General Assembly/Congress; these workshops are an opportunity for the trained STP Fellows and STP Associate Fellows to present and share their experiences. The 2019 STP Workshop in Paris can be reviewed below. View the Safety Training Program Workshops page for details on previous workshops.
The Safety Training Program is an IUPAC COCI Global Project. More details can be found in the following:

In recent years, former STP Fellows have also initiated activities of their own. See for example the STP regional project in Latin America (project 2018-021-1-022) or the STP regional project in India (project 2017-032-3-022).
