Project Details Special issue of Chemistry Teacher International in Polymer Sciences

Project No.:
2019-035-1-050
Start Date:
01 November 2019
End Date:
Division Name:
Committee on Chemistry Education
Division No.:
050

Objective

Publication of the lecture notes presented at IUPAC Educational Workshops in Polymer Sciences organized by Polymer Division (Division IV) or educational materials in polymer sciences in a special issue of Chemistry Teacher International. Members from Division IV and CCE will cooperate in writing the articles.

The objectives of this special issue are:
(1) bridging the gap between research and education
(2) good practice for a particular topic of polymer sciences for educational purpose

Number of articles: 10 – 15 articles in one issue.

Description

Division IV has organized educational workshops in which lectures on (1) polymer synthesis (2016, project 2015-057-1-400), (2) characterization (2017, project 2016-033-1-400), (3) processing (2018, project 2017-029-2-400) and (4) applications (2020, project 2019-022-1-400) were given. The presentation slides (2016, 2017 and 2018) were uploaded on the IUPAC website and a few slides were coupled with the publication of the manuscript in Pure and Applied Chemistry and Macromolecular Symposia. The presentation slides of 2020 will be uploaded to the IUPAC website in June 2020. In addition, a few members from Division IV will be identified for publication of their lecture materials in polymer sciences.

These teaching materials are principally published for
(1) lecturers at the universities
(2) high-school teachers / pre-universities teachers

For each manuscript, there will be one (or more) author(s) from the course instructors / Div IV (responsible for the technical content) and one author from CCE (to ensure the presentation of the manuscript can be easily followed by lecturers / teachers). The corresponding author will be from Div IV or course instructor.
The articles will be published in a special issue of Chemistry Teacher International to appear in 4th quarter of 2020. The articles will be open access.
