Summary

Understand the concepts of reflection and refraction by identifying the materials from which optical waveguides are made. Propose other materials for trapping light and relate them to other known materials, such as the glass and plastics that make up optical fiber.
This exercise will allow students to understand how an optical fiber is constructed. This new optical waveguide must be understood and analyzed considering the refractive index; therefore, the development of this exercise will also allow students to understand and relate concepts such as core, cladding, frequency, wavelength, and transparency.
To show that light can be trapped in a common, simple, and inexpensive material.
