Summary
In the semi-arid region of northeastern Brazil, women's lives are not easy. The culture is male-dominated. With the coming of Higher Education Institutions to the region, the perspective of studying and having a profession leads many young women to dream of better days. Thus, the Academic Unit of Serra Talhada/Federal Rural University of Pernambuco (UAST/UFRPE), with the support of Sou+UAST, GIAQ/UAST and FACEPE (Proc. APQ 1303-1.06/25) came together to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, with motivating lectures on the importance of diversity in science and the scientific and technological work developed by women and girls at UAST. The Lectures will take place in high schools, on February 10, 2026, from 8 am to 10 am, with the theme: Science as a Tool for the Empowerment and equity of Women and Girls in the Backlands of Pernambuco.
