Summary
An industrial visit was organized for over 20 undergraduate students of B.Sc. Chemistry to Ajinkyatara Sahakari Sugar Industry Ltd., Satara, with the objective of gaining practical exposure to large-scale sugar manufacturing processes. The visit provided students with firsthand insight into cane crushing, juice extraction, clarification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, and sugar drying operations. Industry experts explained quality control measures, by-product utilization such as molasses and bagasse, and effluent treatment practices adopted for environmental sustainability. Students also observed laboratory testing procedures and process control techniques used to maintain product standards. The visit successfully bridged the gap between theoretical knowledge and industrial application, enhancing students’ understanding of chemical engineering principles in the sugar industry.
