In 2024, May 20 was recognized by UNESCO as a official UNESCO International Day. This designation opens new avenues to promote metrology, aligning with UNESCO’s mission to construct a better world through science and education.
Following the launch event held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 14 May 2024 to celebrate 20 May becoming a UNESCO International Day, a web page has been published by UNESCO with a video explaining the importance of metrology, and also a special message from Audrey Azoulay, the UNESCO Director-General.
Metrology provides the foundation for data-driven decision-making and policy development in sustainability. By ensuring accurate measurements across various aspects of sustainability, it helps organizations, governments and individuals make informed choices that contribute to a more sustainable future.
The focus for World Metrology Day in 2024 was on the numerous measurement opportunities that contribute to the establishment of a sustainable global economy and environment.
