Kutina is a small town near Zagreb in Croatia.Town was a leader in the development of the chemical industry of this part of Europe. In 1926 in our town started production of soot, lime and products based on concrete clay. 1968 factory Petrokemija begins to produce the first artificial fertilizer Urea. Technical School Kutina since 1960 introduces chemical education in its curriculum and since then has been educated chemical technicians, laboratory and environmental technicians who improve and expand the production of our petrochemical industry, as well as contribute to the development of Croatian chemical science in general. This year Technical School Kutina, in cooperation with the primary schools of Kutina, is launching a project in which we will link the chemical science and Slavic tradition, the Old Slavic Glagolitic Scripture together to create a periodic system of elements with the letter that our ancestors used from 9th until the 19th century. At breakfast in Technical School of Kutina will participate chemistry teachers, their students and librarians who lead the project. With this project, we want to extend the formal education, popularize chemistry and science in general through inter-generational holistic creative learning. For the motto of our project, we borrowed the lyrics of the American poet Mary Olive –Instructions for life: Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it. Through this project we also create an exhibition devoted to Croatian woman chemist scientists.
