Dr. Quan Yuan is a full professor at Hunan University in China. She received her BS degree from Wuhan University in 2004 and PhD degree from Peking University in 2009. Later, she continued postdoctoral research in University of Florida.

Dr. Yuan focuses on developing functional materials for applications in biosensing and water desalination. She is willing to carry out interdisciplinary research and international cooperation. She has a good collaboration with Prof. Xiangfeng Duan from the University of California, Los Angeles, on developing graphene nanomesh based functional materials for biosensing and water desalination. The practical usage of the developed materials for disease diagnosis and water remediation is the ultimate goal of Yuan’s lab. Dr. Yuan likes to teach students and is committed to stimulating students’ research interests and creativity.

Dr. Yuan has authored over 80 high-quality papers. She was invited to write many reviews on journals such as Chem. Soc. Rev. She was also invited to attend many international conferences to exchange ideas with scientists on the cutting edge of material research in China, Singapore, Poland, etc. Dr. Yuan is serving as a topic editor for Crystal Growth & Design and youth editorial committee of Chinese Chemical Letters.

Dr. Yuan has received many academic awards including: Nano Research Young Innovators Award in 2018, Young Cheung Kong Scholars Program in 2015, Chinese Chemistry Society Young Chemist Award in 2015, Excellent Young Scientist Foundation of NSFC in 2014, National Top 100 Doctoral Thesis in 2011, etc.

Prof. Yuan has watched her students grow into independent and intuitive researchers able to compete in the most demanding multidisciplinary scientific environments. She has graduated a total of 3 PhDs and 4 MSc. Most of her students have been awarded with fellowships over the past few years. It has been her priority to secure a pleasant and productive environment for their career development.
