Division VII Emeritus Fellows - IUPAC | International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry

The Division of Chemistry and Human Health awards the status of Emeritus Fellow to former members of the Division and its erstwhile Commissions and Subcommittees who have made outstanding contributions to IUPAC and, through chemistry, to the health sciences in general.

Up to three new Emeritus Fellows are appointed during each Biennium, reflecting the current Subcommittee structure of the Division. Fellows are kept abreast of Division activities and are encouraged to remain active with the Division as ad hoc consultants.

Dr. Stanley S. Brown: (UK, 2010) – Founding member of the Commission on Toxicology (1972) and Division President (1985-1989).
Prof. Rita Cornelis: (Belgium, 2011) – Chair of the Commission on Toxicology (1993-1998) and National Representative for Belgium (2006-2009).
Dr. John Duffus: (UK, 2017) – Chair of the Commission on Toxicology (1998-2001), Chair of Subcommittee on Toxicology and Risk Assessment (2002 to 2017).
Prof. René Dybkaer: (Denmark, 2010; deceased 2019) – President of the IFCC (1979-1984), and founding and continuing member of the joint IUPAC-IFCC Commission on Nomenclature, Properties and Units.
Prof. Janos Fischer: (Hungary, 2023) – Chair of the Subcommittee on Drug Discovery and Development (2014-2017) and Member of the Division since 1998.
Prof. Urban Forsum: (Sweden, 2010) – Chair of the joint IUPAC-IFCC Commission on Nomenclature, Properties and Units (2000-2005).

Prof. Robin Ganellin: (UK, 2014) – President of the Medicinal Chemistry Section (2000-2001) and Chair of the Subcommittee on Drug Discovery and Development (2006-2011).
Prof. Philippe Grandjean: (Denmark, 2010) – Chair of the Commission on Toxicology (1987-1991).
Prof. Naofumi Koga: (Japan, 2012) – President of the Medicinal Chemistry Section (1995-1999) and first President of the Asian Federation of Medicinal Chemistry.
Prof. Lester A. Mitscher: (USA, 2010; deceased 2015) – Titular Member of the Medicinal Chemistry Section (1991-1995).
Dr. Henrik Olesen: (Denmark, 2010; deceased 2012) – Chair of the Commission on Nomenclature for Properties and Units (1989) and member of the joint IUPAC-IFCC Commission on Nomenclature, Properties and Units (1988-1997).
Prof. Michael Schwenk: (Germany, 2020; deceased 2022) – Titular Member and Secretary of Division VII (2010-2016); Task group member since 2004 and corresponding member with the Interdivisional Standing Committee on Green chemistry for Sustainable Development (2018-).
Prof. Frederick William Sunderman, Jr.: (USA, 2010; deceased 2011) – Founding member and Chair (1972-1981) of the Commission on Toxicology, and President of the Clinical Chemistry Division (1981-1985).
Prof. Doug Templeton: (Canada, 2014) – President of Division VII (2008-2011).
Dr. John G. Topliss: (USA, 2010) – President of the Medicinal Chemistry Section (1992-1995).
