The Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic organizes every summer Prague Meetings on Macromolecules, which are focused on special topics of polymer chemistry and physics. The papers included in this volume of Macromolecular Symposia were delivered at the 48th Microsymposium ‘‘Polymer Colloids: From Design to Biomedical and Industrial Applications’’, held in Prague, July 20-24, 2008.

The 42nd World Polymer Congress –MACRO 2008–, (WPC) sponsored by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and organized by the Polymer Society, Taipei (together with the Chemical Society Located in Taipei, the National Tsing Hua University, and the Industrial Technology Research Institutes), was held at the Taipei International Conventional Center from June 29 to July 4, 2008. The aim of the biannually held WPC series is to bring polymer scientists and engineers from around the globe to address recent developments and urgent issues in polymer science.

The 6th International Symposium ‘‘Molecular Order and Mobility in Polymer Systems’’ was held in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, 2–6 of June 2008. It was a continuation of the series of Symposia organized by the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds of RAS and titled alternatively as ‘‘Molecular Mobility and Order in Polymer Systems (I – 1994, III – 1999, and V – 2005) and ‘‘Molecular Order and Mobility in Polymer Systems’’ (II – 1996, IV – 2002, VI – 2008).

POLYCHAR (World Forum on Advanced Materials) is an annual IUPAC-sponsored Conference. POLYCHAR 16 was held February 17th-21st 2008 in Lucknow, the capital of the Indian State Uttar Pradesh, hosted by the University of Lucknow. There were a total of 292 participants from 35 countries. This volume represents only a small, selected fraction of the 91 oral and 136 poster presentations from the field of Polymer Materials Science.
